The Duct Cleaning Step-By-Step Process: How Are Air Ducts Cleaned?

Your home’s air duct system delivers air throughout your home…along with everything else that accumulates in it over time. Professional air duct cleaning from Better Air involves more than the ducts themselves: your system’s intake and return vents should be cleaned, along with its supply. Depending on the type of system you have, the grills, registers, fans, HVAC unit, and furnace should all be treated as part of a full air duct cleaning service.

Better Air uses state-of-the-art professional equipment and years of know-how to make your air system healthier for your family and more efficient, too. A dirty air system works harder and uses more energy than a well-maintained one. To keep things running the way they should, we recommend a thorough professional cleaning every three to five years for most homes.

Professional Air Duct Cleaning, Professional Tools

Our technicians are equipped with the latest tools of the trade, from small diagnostic instruments to powerful machinery designed to quickly clean large ductwork. For complex jobs, we even use cable-mounted video cameras to give us a clear, detailed view of the state of your system. No matter what your ducts have collected over the months and years, we’ll find it and remove it, helping your system work like new.

To do the actual cleaning, we use a combination of specially designed brushes and vacuum machines. These tools are designed to seal your system while they clean it, preventing the dust, bacteria, and debris that have collected in your ducts from entering your living spaces.

Professional Air Duct Cleaning, Step by Step

We follow a proven three-step process: inspection, cleaning, and review.

1: Duct Cleaning Inspection

Before we clean your ducts, we need to know exactly what we’re after. Your technician will thoroughly document your entire air duct system, examining its source and assessing each access point before devising a custom plan to tackle your home’s particular needs. This may involve direct visual inspection and remove video imaging of your system’s hard-to-reach spaces.

2: Air Duct Cleaning

Most of the actual cleaning will be performed by a vacuum collection unit. The first step of this process is to create negative air pressure throughout your system, so that debris that is loosened during the cleaning process can flow only to the collection unit. Next, your technician uses a series of brushes to agitate your ductwork’s walls, freeing dirt, dust, pollen, bacteria, and other contaminants from your system.

3: Review

After we perform your custom duct-cleaning job, we repeat step one, inspecting all of your system’s ducts and components to ensure that they have been thoroughly cleaned.  The only thing that’s left is for you to begin enjoying cleaner, healthier air throughout your home.
